Project Outline

The "Going Green - Learn, Do and Save" initiative is part of AusIndustry's "Building Entrepreneurship in Small Business" (BESB) program which is aimed at supporting and improving Australia's small business operating skills. The following sections outline details of the project.

Project Summary

The aim of the "Going Green" project is to engage small and medium businesses throughout Northern Australia to highlight the advantages of using "green" business practices in energy, water and waste, which will ultimately:

The project also aims to train these businesses in easy-to-understand methods of how to implement these practices.

It is planned that 800 businesses will be trained in the targeted sectors of tourism, agriculture, engineering and retail. The main method of delivery is workshops run in conjunction with industry organisations and town councils in not only major regional centres, but smaller communities which often have limited access to innovative information on how to improve their business.

About The Going Green - Learn, Do and Save Workshops

The Going Green: Learn, Do and Save workshops have been produced for small to medium sized businesses to assist them to become "green" in their business operations, but more importantly, to do this while also improving their organisations profitability. These workshops will run for 2 hours and will be highly interactive as they are only offered in small groups of no more than 20 participants.

The workshops are designed as the introduction to a program that will run for at least 12 months. The program will involve participants measuring and recording their waste, water and energy use before and after the implementation of some of our suggested strategies to reduce the business's impact on the environment and improve profitability.

After successful completion of the Queensland workshops, the Northern Territory workshops are about to commence from 16 October 2008. For Northern Territory workshop locations and dates, click HERE.

The workshop series will be provided through a range of locations across the Northern Territory and particularly focuses on regional towns and centres, with workshops in Tennant Creek, Katherine and Alice Springs. The workshops will include a proportion of generic strategies for becoming greener, but will be tailored towards the following industries:

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are answers to your Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: How do I register for a workshop?

You must create an account and enter your business details to be able to register for a workshop. Create an account HERE and then go to Workshops >> Workshop Bookings to select your locations. Simply follow the links to complete your registration.

Q: Why do I have to register through the website?

The website is used as a tool for us to share information with those people who have attended a workshop. Once you have registered and attended a workshop, you will receive access to additional tools through the web - for example, the Eco-Calculator, your ongoing performance reports, and the industry comparative reports at the end of the period.

Q: How much more do I have to pay for the 12 months coaching?

Nothing! The only fee you will ever pay is the $27.50 registration fee. This is because this is a government funded program which means that we can deliver it to you without charging you what would normally be around $3,000!

Q: I am interested in the workshops, but my business is not in any of the industries. Should I still come?

Yes. The workshop material is approximately 75% general information and 25% specific industry examples. While these examples may not always be relevant to you - by attending our workshop you'll be able to receive ongoing coaching from our facilitators which will be extremely relevant and helpful for your business.

Q: If I cannot attend a workshop, can I still be involved in the program?

Yes. We are able to make available the workshop slides and some suggested initiatives which you can introduce into your business. You'll also be able to speak directly with our facilitators and consultants to gain the most from them for your business.
